Let Loose For Literacy recently invited Kevin Beiser, Math Teacher and President of the San Diego Unified Board of Education, to be their guest speaker. Hosted by American Academy of Pediatrics, the Let Loose For Literacy event was a fundraising event to support Reach Out & Read San Diego. Reach Out and Read is a program that empowers parents to be their child’s first teacher and has over 90 programs in pediatric offices in San Diego.
Beiser spoke on brain development, the role of Pediatricians encouraging parents to read to their young children ages 0-5. Why? Because after 6 years old — “it is just too late.”
“Read to them. Sing to them. And not plug them into a TV or electronic device as a pacifier for a babysitter” – Kevin Beiser
