The Haven is a posh pizzeria and more in uptown San Diego, conveniently located right off the 15 in the Kensington neighborhood on Adams Ave. If you’re in Hillcrest or North Park, just hop on Adams Avenue until you reach the Kensington district. If you pass the big overarching Kensington sign, you’ve gone too far.
The first attention grabber at The Haven is their outside patio with plenty of heaters to keep you warm, even in San Diego’s brisk winter weather. Upon arriving, I was impressed with the cleanliness as well as the modern & artsy decor. The Haven has a straightforward menu consisting of pizza and pasta, pizza and pasta creations you build yourself, and an array of salads, appetizers and wine and beer. After I spotted the “Traditional Lasagna” dish, I quickly knew what I would order. A fantastic lasagna dish is hard to come by… and I couldn’t wait to try it.
The Haven has uptown San Diego’s best lasagna
The “Traditional Lasagna” was everything I hoped for — cheesy, flavorful, and not too heavy. I expected a traditional square cut of lasagna, but it came in a deep oval dish. With layers of marinara, ricotta, mozzarella, mushrooms and ground beef tap dancing on my taste buds, I realized I just found the best lasagna in uptown San Diego at The Haven. I paired my dish with “Traditional Bruschetta” and “Antipasto Salad,” which also impressed and brought together a delicious meal!
Now that I’ve had their lasagna, I have my eye on their “build your own creation” Macaroni and Cheese dish, and their specialty pizza pies “The Opa,” “The Spud” and “The Cortez.”
